Full time starting salary is normally in the range £56,021 to £64,914 with potential progression once in post to £84,644

Role Summary

The Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Cooling and Cold Chain (ACES) was established to lead the way in the development and roll-out of affordable, sustainable, resilient and equitable on- and off-grid cooling and cold-chain solutions for food and health sectors in Africa – it is the only Centre of its kind with a focus on holistic and sustainable cold-chain solutions tailored for African markets. The programme is developed by the Governments of Rwanda and the United Kingdom; the United Nations Environment Programme; the UK’s Centre for Sustainable Cooling (CSC) bringing together a consortium of leading UK and international universities, and the University of Rwanda. Funding and support to date exceeds $25M. Two further Centres are in development in India.

The position will be based on the University Edgbaston campus, although with the ability for hybrid working. You will be expected to travel extensively both to support our international centres and SPOKEs and develop further sites.

You will lead the research of whole system step-change approaches to sustainable cooling technologies in developing markets. These will include developing equitable, sustainable and resilient cold-chains for food and pharma products within the wider transition to renewables in both low- and middle-income countries, and high-income countries.

The role will be contributing at a senior level on a sustained basis to the whole range of research and administration within the Centre for Sustainable Cooling.

Research is likely to involve an established national and developing international reputation through significant original research work and a clear record of impact. You will lead the research of whole system step-change approaches to sustainable cooling technologies in developing markets. These will include developing equitable, sustainable, and resilient cold-chains for food and pharma products within the wider transition to renewables in both low- and middle-income countries, and high-income countries. Management and administration is likely to include Centre/School leadership and management activity with University wide involvement, and may include sustained high-value impact knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement and similar activities that are of manifest benefit to the College and University.
