Job Summary:

The research lab of Dr. Corrine Voils invites applications for a scientist to join a large research program focused on behavioral interventions for weight management. Dr. Voils’ research program involves collaborations with universities and VA medical centers across the United States, with multiple studies funded by the NIH and VA.

The selected candidate will assist Dr. Voils in all areas of research, providing oversight of projects, identifying research problems, designing research methodologies, providing one-on-one training and research mentorship to new researchers, performing and supervising research, preparing research results for presentation to professional organizations, and submitting scholarly publications. In addition, the scientist will be responsible for assisting with grant proposals and participating in research dissemination initiatives.

The Voils lab is part of the Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program (WiSOR), a vibrant health services research program within the Department of Surgery with approximately 20 faculty and 25 research staff. WiSOR research staff enjoy a collaborative work environment, ample opportunities for professional development, and a hybrid office-remote workplace.

Education:

Required
Terminal Degree
PhD required, preferably in behavioral or social science, nursing, health services research, public health, population health, health policy, or other related field.

Qualifications:

Required

  • At least three years of professional experience in research
  • Experience in behavioral intervention research, health services research, public/community health, social sciences, or related areas.

Preferred

  • Ability to meet deadlines and initiate tasks without close supervision
  • Experience coordinating the work of diverse teams, including developing timelines, managing team communications, and delegating tasks
  • Prior experience with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) application process
  • Experience submitting annual reports to funding agencies
  • Experience writing scientific manuscripts for publication
  • Superb written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), REDCap, Qualtrics, or comparable data capture tools
  • Experience conducting data analyses in SAS, R, or Stata

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 80% – 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $55,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The starting salary for the position is $55,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Additional Information:

This position has been identified as a position that will be located in or regularly access UW Health locations. This position will need to adhere to UW Health policies and affiliated requirements. UW Health requires that anyone (all staff, faculty students, volunteers, and other affiliated individuals) working in or regularly accessing UW Health locations receive the COVID-19 primary vaccination series and first booster. This position will be required to adhere to that policy and if not in full compliance to have a plan for achieving full compliance within 40 days of the first day of employment. Additionally, you may be required to adhere to other vaccination requirements. Medical or religious accommodations will be considered.

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.
