Research Fellow in Advanced Materials and Sustainable Chemistry at Northumbria University

ABOUT THE ROLE  

Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams, you will support the Principal Investigator in delivery of research activity on advanced materials or synthetic/analytic chemistry that support regional companies Northeast-based SMEs to develop and commercialise innovation in products and services. The role will help the University to work with and contribute to raising the innovation and economic potential of the relevant manufacturing sectors in in the North of Tyne Combined Authority or County Durham council areas.

The role is fixed term for 18 months and will end in March 2025. 

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Department of Applied Sciences has an exciting and extensive portfolio of subjects including biology, biomedical sciences, chemistry, forensic science, food, and nutritional sciences. The Royal Society of Chemistry and the Institute of Biomedical Science have accredited several of our programmes. We cover biology, biomedical sciences, chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis, forensic science, food, and nutritional sciences.  

This project will be part of the Chemistry Research and Innovation Group, which is an internationally recognised group of chemistry academics working across discipline boundaries in a range of sectors from chemical and materials synthesis, to chemical and bioanalysis and predictive modelling. We comprise a core of experienced academic project leaders at all levels from Senior Lecturer to Professor with funding from research councils (principally EPSRC), InnovateUK and commercial partners whilst being supported by the university in dedicated synthesis laboratories, analytical chemistry suites and its own high performance computing cluster. 

ABOUT YOU
Applicants should hold a PhD in Chemistry, polymer science, physics, chemical or process engineering or a related discipline. and have relevant experience in R&D or innovation projects with a commercial focus.
