A Research Associate in Turbulence Modelling for Quiet Airfoils is required for 8 months as part of the EPSRC project “Surface treatments for next generation quiet aerofoil”. The candidate will be responsible for developing and applying efficient computational algorithms for near-wall turbulence modelling. You will be based in the Department of Fluids and Environment, under Dr. Sergey Utyuzhnikov.

This is a position for a post-doctoral researcher with a track record in Turbulence Modelling, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and High-Performance Computing.  The position is supported by an EPSRC funded project “Surface treatments for next generation of quiet aerofoils” between the University of Manchester, Southampton University and Queen Mary University of London. The position requires an experienced researcher to develop a novel algorithm of near-wall domain decomposition for turbulence modeling with the use of Large Eddy Simulation and implement it for the design of quite airfoils. Candidates should have experience in work with either in-house or open-source computers codes for turbulence modelling based on Large Eddy Simulation. The successful candidate will be a highly capable, motivated and independent researcher. You will be part of a larger research team working on the development of a perspective technology for design of next generation quiet airfoils. Experience with OpenFOAM and knowledge of high-performance computing are highly desirable. An original code will be provided and support by necessary explanations.

The start date is 1st December 2023, or soon after, and the position is available for 8 months. The start date is flexible and can be negotiated.
