Merced College is a midsized community college located in California’s Central Valley. Founded in 1962, the College
serves more than 16,000 students annually with room to expand on its 267-acre main Merced campus and 120 acre Los Banos campus site. The

Merced College is seeking a full-time Professor of Registered Nursing beginning fall 2023 who has a
passion for educating the next generation of nurses. The successful candidate will bring innovative, evidence-based teaching methods that

General
Description:
The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of
the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes;
maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current
technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional
position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty
governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean;
fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

- The specialty areas of geriatrics, pediatrics, obstetrics, mental health, and medical-surgical
background. - Adhering to the Board of Registered Nursing guidelines.
Examples of Duties
Essential
Functions:
- Provide innovative and effective instruction in accordance with current pedagogy and established course
outlines and expectations - Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance policies and maintain
regular and substantive contact with students - Maintain and submit required student attendance and scholastic records on the Learning
Management System (e.g. grades and syllabi) - Utilize the Learning Management System to deliver, prepare, and grade class assignments
and examinations - Maintain and utilize effective skills in instructional design, applications, and methods
- Post and maintain
regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy - Participate in the development and review of
curriculum - Participate in the development of teaching-learning methods and materials
- Participate in departmental, area, and
campus professional activities/committees - Represent the college within the Merced community and within professional
circles - Participate in the college’s learning outcomes assessment program, including course, program, and institutional assessments
to continually improve student learning outcomes
Typical Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing;
OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing AND master’s degree in
Health Education or Health Science.
OROR
- The minimum
qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing, whichever is higher:- Master’s or higher degree, which includes course work
in nursing, education or administration. If degree is in something other than nursing, submit information verifying course work in nursing
education. - Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing areas to which the faculty is assigned,
that can be met by either one of the following (A or B) below:- (A) One (1) year’s continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience
providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in a designated nursing area; OR - (B) One (1) academic year of registered nurse
level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrate clinical
competency.
- (A) One (1) year’s continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience
- Completion of at least one (1) years’ experience teaching courses related to registered nursing or completion
of a post-baccalaureate course which includes practice in teaching registered nursing.
- Master’s or higher degree, which includes course work
- Hold and maintain a current
California license as a Registered Nurse, by August 18, 2023.
AND
- Promote and incorporate culturally
affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture and create a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment. In
conducting their duties, staff members shall respect and acknowledge the diversity of students and colleagues.
Preferred:
- Current knowledge and experience in Registered Nursing.
- Experience in innovative teaching
methods and curriculum development. - Current technology skills related to teaching in the discipline and a willingness to pursue
future technological developments.
