Job Summary
Sets up, operates, and manipulates
mid-fidelity and high-fidelity manikins, multimedia, computer, and related equipment needed for simulating medical conditions and responses
used in nursing and other allied health courses.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Assists faculty with set up
and implementation of clinical nursing scenarios. Provides technical support and trouble-shooting expertise during clinical simulation
experiences. Operates instructional media equipment such as video cameras, multi-media computer systems, and audio and video distribution
systems used in a patient care simulation laboratory. - Programs mid-fidelity and high-fidelity manikins for simulation, prepares
simulation equipment (such as IV pumps, simulation monitors, etc.) to meet the clinical and skill objectives and specifications identified
by faculty. - Receives, sets up, and tests new simulators and related multimedia and computer equipment.
- Performs preventative
maintenance, software updates, and repair of simulation, media, and computer equipment in the lab; diagnoses more serious equipment
malfunctions and arranges for repair; arranges for general maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment. - Restores laboratory to
pre-scenario conditions. Maintains a variety of records related to simulation lab operations and equipment. Assists faculty in placing
orders for equipment; maintains and provides security for supplies, materials, and equipment in the laboratory. Assists in the research of
purchasing options for lab equipment and software. - Works primarily in the clinical simulation lab environment.
- May require
the lifting of heavy objects (mannequins, equipment, etc.) - May provide IT training and updates for any nursing faculty.
- May
be assigned to perform other duties in the Nursing Department during non-peak simulation workload periods and in the absence of assigned
staff.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- High school diploma
or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred
- 1 year’s professional
experience in a simulation laboratory with significant exposure to simulated direct patient care - Prior experience using
instructional technology
SKILLS
Required
- Knowledge of computer hardware and software
application relevant to simulation functions - Computer hardware and software applications that control mid-fidelity and high-fidelity
manikins for simulation and other medical equipment used in simulation - Knowledge of adult, child and infant mid-fidelity and
high-fidelity manikins for simulation
Working Conditions / Demands
This position requires work
with medical equipment including latex based products.
