CMET is a University of Dundee cross-schools initiative between School of Engineering Sciences and School of Medicine. Surgical technology and robotics remain a core research focus of the centre, currently pursued by several PIs in the Division. Professor Sir Alfred Cuschieri has a long-established track record of R&D on advanced surgical instruments/robotic devices and enjoys excellent relations with various major European industries involved in biomedical instruments, mini-robots and devices. The successful candidate will have access to opportunities for personal development, mentoring and career progr! ession th rough line management and processes established in the School of Medicine and School of Engineering Science.
We are seeking recruitment of a gifted candidate to fill a vacancy for the SOFTIE project funded by a Wellcome Innovator Award. You must be a highly motivated postdoctoral mechatronic engineer with a strong research track record in soft robotics, computer science imaging/ streaming and control engineering. You will be actively involved in design of components of the imaging system together with the LED lighting system, low- and high-level control of vibration-induced intrinsic locomotion and data communication to an external wireless console.
You will be based at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, one of Europe’s largest teaching hospitals where the School of Medicine provides outstanding opportunities in medical education and training supported by world class research facilities.
Your priorities will include:
- Active involvement in the design of components for SOFTIE including the imaging sensor components, LED lighting system, high- and low-level control of intrinsic vibration-induced locomotion and data communication to external wireless console.
- Active close involvement in preparing the final report, dissemination of the work at scientific meetings, public engagement activities and publication of scientific papers in high impact peer- reviewed journals based on the research.
Who we’re looking for:
- PhD in robotics/electronic or mechatronics engineering,
- Experience of research techniques applicable to the project, including robotics, embedded digital systems, micro-camera sensors, communications and control.
