The role

The School of Civil, Aerospace and Design Engineering wishes to recruit a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer  to support and complement our research and teaching  in Space Engineering. We  welcome experience in any area of the subject including, for example, scientific mission planning and payloads, new materials forspace use, space weather, model-based systems engineering and instrument development. The School is renowned for delivering  high quality teaching and world-class research; attracting the highest calibre of students and providing an intellectually stimulating environment. Your teaching will be within  the Aerospace degree course.

You will join a group of  3 academics and 15 researchers  working to combine cutting-edge fundamental science with strong industrial and international links. We have been awarded multiple grants and industrial projects by the UK Space Agency, European Space Agency, and others.

What will you be doing?

  • Conduct world leading research in Space Engineering.
  • Apply for funding and supervising research students.
  • Be responsible for devising and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in space-related topics.
  • Be presenting your research at international conferences and publishing peer-reviewed journal papers.
  • Be building research collaborations with industry.
  • Support students through our tutorial system and supervising student projects.
  • Contribute to academic administration within the School.

  • You have a strong background in any area of space engineering, Proven track record of research excellence in your area and strong industrial links (desirable)
  • You can create new knowledge through research and understand how it to translates to application.
  • You can deliver inspiring teaching.
  • You can deliver the appropriate level of published work and funding applications to support your research.You have a desire to work collaboratively and support the research of others in your research group and beyond.
  • You enjoy supporting students and are willing to continually develop your teaching skills.
  • You hold a first degree and PhD, or equivalent, in a subject of relevance to engineering
