Lecturer in Biosystems/Agricultural Engineering at University of the West Indies

Faculty of Engineering

Qualifications and Experience 

The successful candidate must possess a PhD from a recognized university, which should be in Biosystems, Agricultural or Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. 

Candidates should also possess:

• Ideally, at least three (3) years teaching experience
• Ideally, at least three (3) articles in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
• Expertise in the area of Field Machinery and Equipment
• Competence in the design of Traction and Power Hydraulics systems
• Evidence of organizing research in Biosystems Engineering 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

• Experience in the supervision of research projects, preferably at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Proficiency in teaching courses related to at least two (2) of the following:
  • Machine Drawing
  • Design
  • Smart Mechanisation
  • Food Engineering 

The following would be considered assets:

• Certificate in university teaching and learning
• Industrial experience 

Candidates must be registered or able to register for Chartered Engineer or Professional Engineer status.

Special Responsibilities 

• Leading and strengthening the research and outreach activities in the Department, in particular Bio-systems (Agricultural) Engineering
• Supervising research students
• Teaching Traction and Power Hydraulics, Field Machinery and/or Intelligent Machine Systems and other related Mechanical Engineering courses such as Machine Drawing/Design, Dynamics and Mechanics of Machines
• Advising undergraduate students
• Engaging in the delivery and development of appropriate design projects
• Engaging in meaningful research and innovation activities
