At the University of Bradford, our students belong to a supportive university community and achieve the best outcomes as graduates. Our University Strategy sets out our ambitions for 2025, which we will achieve by using our proud heritage as a springboard and remaining steadfast in our commitment to equality, diversity, & inclusion. We will harness our strengths in research, innovation, teaching and partnerships to extend our reputation, influence, and impact. All of this will create a values-led culture that is inclusive and effective in enriching lives and benefitting society.
To enable us to meet the growing challenges of contemporary interdisciplinary opportunities and to deliver the strategic growth agenda of the University, in August 2023 the current Faculty of Engineering and Informatics became the Faculty of Engineering & Digital Technologies, undergoing a reshaping of the academic disciplines from six Departments to three larger Schools: the School of Engineering, the School of Built Environment, Architecture and Creative Industries, and the School of Computer Science, AI and Electronics.
Our research is ever more interdisciplinary and is gathered under four major themes in the new Faculty, embedded strongly within but also reaching across the three Schools and the wider University: Advanced Materials, Healthcare Technology Innovation, Sustainable Environments, and Smart Industrial Systems. Long term research & knowledge exchange strengths in our Faculty are reflected in five well-established outward-facing Research and Knowledge Transfer Centres that are integrated into the four themes: the Automotive Research Centre, the Centre for Visual Computing, the Centre for Sustainable Environments, the Centre for Advanced Materials Engineering, and Polymer Micro and Nano Technology.
The School of Engineering brings together Mechanical, Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, and is well positioned to drive developments in green/low carbon/net zero energy & transport, clean manufacturing and processing, high quality lifestyles and overall sustainability. The role of Head of the School of Engineering is an exciting opportunity to lead the development of a new interdisciplinary academic grouping, at a time when the Faculty is looking to grow its student education and research and innovation activities, to deliver the overall strategy of the University and meet the employment & technology needs of external partners linked to its disciplines.
After a three-year appointment as Head of School, the post holder will revert to a normal academic position commensurate with their grade. Extension of the headship beyond three years is possible and will be considered as appropriate. The role attracts an addititional £7500 per annum on top of the current substantive academic position salary of the role holder.
