Job Description

The purpose of this position is to perform teaching duties and professional service for the College and serve as the Practical Nursing Program Coordinator. This is accomplished by providing instruction as assigned; conducting and assessing instruction; developing and/or modifying curriculum; assisting students through academic advising; establishing, posting, and maintaining office hours; providing leadership for the development, growth, and support of the College and the assigned area; and undertaking professional community service.

Serving as the Practical Nursing Program Coordinator, this position works closely with the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health Professions and Director for Nursing Education in implementing the Practical Nursing (PN) Program. The Coordinator is responsible for providing instruction and leadership in developing and executing the PN Program course syllabi and initiating course planning consistent with the current philosophy, program outcomes and organizational plan. The coordinator gives direction and ongoing assistance to course faculty in implementing the learning process in classroom and clinical settings. Other duties include supporting the mission, vision and values of the College and policies of the Board of Trustees; serving on various College committees, task forces and other groups; and participating in various official College ceremonies and meetings.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education

A master’s degree in nursing (MSN) is required.

Required Experience

Minimum of 5 years required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to develop course calendars and clinical rotation schedules
  • Coordinate student learning experiences in multiple and varied clinical settings
  • Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland or compact state.
  • Drivers license

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience as a nurse educator is preferred, including classroom teaching experience in various modalities including synchronous and asynchronous methods. Curriculum development experience; demonstrated ability to evaluate student performance; experience with test item writing; experience with instructional technology.
